Eligibility
For an Adult passport renewal, you must be 18 years and over and you will need an Australian Passport that:
- was issued when you were aged 16 or older
- was issued on or after 1 January 2006 with a minimum of two years’ validity
- has your current name, date of birth, place of birth and gender, and
- has not been reported lost, stolen, or cancelled.

If you answer no to any of these questions, you’ll need to lodge your application in person by appointment only.
Note: If you are applying for a replacement passport due to full visa pages, you must lodge the application (PC7 form) in person by appointment. The replacement passport has the same expiry date as the passport it replaces. Further information on replacement passport is available here

The passport will be posted to the address you have indicated on the form. Your current passport will automatically be cancelled 30 days from when the new passport is received at the Consulate. - The application must be lodged within six months of completion.
- Print and sign your application form
- Print on plain white A4 paper, using black ink only. using the "fit to page" setting to ensure no sections are missing. Make sure the top and bottom of the page is not cut off. Refer to more information on printing your application form.
- Sign the form using a black pen, within the signature box. Make sure there are no alterations or whiteout on the signature or the date.
- A new signature will be required if your signature is outside the box
- Photos
- Two recent identical colour photos, less than 6 months old with your full name written on the back of one photo. Refer to photo guidelines for more information.
- Do NOT attach the photos to the form as this may damage them.
- Payment
- Complete the Credit Card Deduction Authority form, include it with your application form.
- Payment is made in AUD only.

Eligibility
Child passport renewal applications (PC8) can be mailed-in provided the applicant is:
- aged up to 15 years old and
- has held a previous Australian Passport

- The back of one photo must be endorsed by the child’s guarantor, writing ‘This is a true photo of [the child’s full name]’ and signed in black pen.
- DO NOT attach the photos to the form as this may damage them.
- Proof of identity of person(s) with Parental Responsibility
- Good quality photocopies of identity documents of those with parental responsibilities (person(s) who signed section 17 on the application) that show their name, photo, signature and current address.
- If your identity documents do not show your current address, please provide any supporting documents that show your name and current address, such as bank statements, police confirmation letter, utility bill, leasing contract, etc.
- Name changes: If the current name of either parent is different to how it appears on the child’s birth certificate, please include certified copies of the documents that explain the change of name.
- Print the application form
- Print the child renewal application on plain white A4 paper, using the "fit to page" setting to ensure no sections are missing. Make sure the top and bottom of the page is not cut off. Further information on printing your application form.
- Signing the application form
- The lodging person with parental responsibility to sign the form using black ink (section 17).
- Children aged 10 years or older must provide a signature (section 18) unless a medical condition prevents this. Please ensure it is signed within the box with no alterations or whiteout on the signature or the date.
- A new siganture will be required if the signature is outside the box
- Guarantor
- A guarantor must sign section 11 of the application form and must also endorse the back of a passport photo by writing ‘This is a true photo of [the child’s full name]’ and signing in black pen.

- Parental Consent
- Parental Consent is required for a child passport. Everyone who’s giving consent must sign section 15 of the form in front of a witness.
- Payment
- Complete the Credit Card Deduction Authority form, include it with your application form.

- Do I send my current passport with the renewal application?
- No
- Will my current passport be cancelled when I mail in my renewal application?
- No. Your current passport will not be cancelled. You will receive an automatic email from the system when your new passport is ready. Your old passport will automatically be cancelled 30 days from when the new passport is received at the Consulate.
- How will I know if/when my application has been received at the Consulate?
- You can track the delivery status with your courier.
- The Passport fee will be processed upon receiving your complete application at our office. Receipts will be sent via email – please ensure you have provided a valid email address on the Credit Card Deduction Authority form.
- Will the Consulate post my new passport to me?
- Your new passport will be posted via EMS to the postal address you have provided on your passport renewal application form (PC7).
- If your circumstances have since changed, please contact us to discuss alternative options to receive your passport.
- What if I cannot access the online portal to complete and print my PC7 renewal application?
- Contact us to request a pre-filled PC7 renewal form to be emailed to you.

Child Renewal Applications FAQs
- Can I mail-in a first-time child passport application?
- No. First time child applications must be lodged in person at your nearest mission. Applicants aged up to 15 years old who have held a previous passport are eligible to apply by mail.
- Do I include the applicant’s previous passport with the application?
- No. You do not need to send the physical passport.
- Do I need to include a copy of the applicant’s previous passport bio data page?
- No
- Do I need to include a copy of the applicant’s birth certificate?
- Not required for mailed-in passport renewal application.
- Do I need to include a copy of the applicant’s citizenship certificate?
- Not required for mailed-in passport renewal application.
- Do I need to include original documents?
- No. Do not send any original documents to us.
- If parental circumstances have changed since the child’s previous application, certified copies of the new supporting documents are required.
For example:- changes in name (marriage, divorce, gender change)
- new court orders
- revised birth certificate.
- If the documents are not in English, do I need to include a translation?
- Yes. We accept translations by notary public/office of justice in Vietnam or an approved translator of the issuing country.
- How will I know if/when my application has been received at the mission?
- You can track the delivery status with your courier.

Passport appointments are available from 09:00 to 11:30 from Monday to Friday.
The Consulate accepts card payments only.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade collects, uses and discloses your personal information in accordance with our obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Passports Act 2005 (Cth). The Department also uses a third-party software (Setmore) to manage the Consulate-General’s appointment system. Your personal information will be handled by Setmore in accordance with Setmore’s Privacy Policy and by DFAT in accordance with DFAT’s Privacy Policy.
