DIAC Electronic Travel Authority (ETA)

The Electronic Travel Authority (ETA)

ETAs are issued to the nationals of ETA-eligible countries who wish to travel to Australia for tourism or business. An ETA can be issued at the Australian Visa Application Centres (during office hours) and by ETA capable airlines and sales agents or via the internet.
See:  Australian Electronic Travel Authority

There is no application form to complete. The ETA is issued electronically upon presentation of a valid ETA-eligible passport. No visa label will be put in your passport. On departure for Australia, airline staff will confirm that a valid visa for Australia is held.

Advantages of ETA:

  • No forms need to be filled in.
  • It is FAST. The ETA requires less information than a normal visa and there is no form to fill or label to stick in your passport. The whole process takes only a few minutes. If you are obtaining an ETA through an airline or their sales agent and can be done on the same screen and at the same time as airline reservations.
  • Approval comes direct from Australia with minimal delay.
  • You can apply for an ETA or check the status of your current ETA yourself on the internet
