The role of DFAT is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This
involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective
and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.
The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian
Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of
Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.
About the position
Under general direction of the Consul, the Consular Case Manager manages consular and passports
team to ensure provision of a high level of consular and passport services to Australian nationals.
The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
• Provide consular and passport advice and assistance to Australian citizens in Vietnam;
• Manage complex consular cases;
• Monitor and coordinate the tasks of consular and passports team, including implementation and
review of performance agreements;
• Liaise with local authorities;
• Interpret and advise on the application of Vietnamese laws and other legal requirements
pertaining to consular and passport matters;
• Provide interpretation and translation services, including at official meetings and functions;
• Perform notarial functions;
• Support post management with developing or updating contingency plans;
• Assist with the provision of passport services, including undertaking interviews;
processing/issuing emergency passports, and maintaining the security of database systems; and
• Support other team members during absences / workload pressure times.
Qualifications/Experience/Skills
Essential:
• Demonstrated English and Vietnamese language proficiency.
• Relevant qualifications, knowledge or experience in consular services and management.
Desirable:
• Relevant qualifications or experience in the use and maintenance of information technology
systems.
