The Australian Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City is seeking a self-motivated and well-organised qualified Vietnamese candidate for an expected vacancy to fill the position of I.T Manager. This position will be offered to the successful candidate on a contractual basis.

Selection for this position will be based on merit and judged against the following specific selection criteria.

1. Demonstrated knowledge of network and telephone patching along with strong Information Technology systems skills, in particular Local Area Networks, Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010;

2. Demonstrated ability to maintain and update Consulate’s website, develop in-house systems and skills to solve technical and application problems;

3. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English in a multi-cultural environment and with other I.T. specialists in Australia and end users in the Embassy and the Consulate;

4. Demonstrated ability to manage work and work as a team member with limited supervision to meet deadlines;

5. Demonstrated experience in I.T. management and/or formal qualifications in the field of I.T are preferred.

About the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)

The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.

The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

About the position

The IT Manager assists the Vice Consul Property & Administration and the Senior Administrative Officer with the management of technical IT support and maintenance for all Consulate-General staff.

The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

• Manage the operation of the office SATIN Low network, the Internet Protocol telephone network, and negotiate services with agency IT sections in Australia and local service providers;
• Ensure full provision of the required IT services to attached agencies;
• Maintain and update the Consulate-General’s website, as required;
• Undertake in-house system and software development projects including the creation of applications and databases;
• Manage the mission’s help desk, co-ordinate, and deliver in-house computer training;.
• Liaise with DFAT’s Global Support Centre for solutions to IT issues at the Consulate-General;
• Arrange purchase and disposal of information technology hardware and software;
• Provide policy advice to senior post management on information systems and attend post configuration committee meetings, as required; and
• Maintain LANA configuration charts and software, hardware registers, and ensure relevant training of the back-up position.

Qualifications/Experience

• Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) qualifications, or equivalent.
• Previous experience in network administration and delivering training sessions.
• Sound knowledge of and/or previous experience with Government Information Technology, asset and financial management policies.
• Sound written and spoken English and Vietnamese language skills.
