The Australian and New Zealand Consulates will jointly host an Anzac Day dawn service at 5:30am on Monday 25 April 2016, at the RMIT District 3 Campus, 21 Pham Ngoc Thach St, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City.  Citizens wishing to attend are kindly requested to arrive at least 10 minutes before the commencement time of the ceremony. Visitors should conduct themselves with appropriate decorum. Continued approval for ceremonies of this nature by local authorities is on the condition that no medals or uniforms are worn. No flags are to be brought to the ceremony by the public. Grateful you observe these conditions.

Long Tan Cross

Services at, and access to, the Long Tan Cross are subject to Vietnamese Government approval.  An Anzac Day dawn service will take place at 0515 hours on Monday 25 April 2016. The service will last approximately 30 minutes. All visitors should note that they will require permission to access the site (see below).  It is suggested attendees bring a torch and, in the event of rain, rain poncho – umbrellas are discouraged as they obscure the view of other attendees. No rain shelters or seating are available at the site.  Information on arrangements for visiting the Long Tan Cross site and obtaining permission is available at the following website: http://hcmc.vietnam.embassy.gov.au/hchi/LongTanCross.html

The Long Tan Cross is located within a privately operated working rubber plantation.  Trees have recently been cleared from the area surrounding the Long Tan Cross and replacement saplings have been planted.  Care should be taken not to damage the saplings during the ceremony.

A cross was first erected on the site in 1969 when the 6th Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment, was on its second tour of duty. The original cross was later removed and is now on display at the Dong Nai Museum, Bien Hoa. A replica now stands on the site.

Attendees will be responsible for their own transport to/from the service. In recognition of local sensitivities, visitors should conduct themselves with appropriate decorum.  Continued approval for ceremonies of this nature by local authorities is on the condition that no medals or uniforms are worn. No flags should be brought to the ceremony by the public.
